DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY
The Department facilitates learning in classical and modern systematic aspects of Animal Diversity to the students of Zoology Honours. This year will be the second batch of the students seeking admission to the three year VI semester course. The semester syllabus in Zoology has papers in Animal Physiology, Laboratory Techniques in Biology, Immunology, Ecology, Biochemistry, Developmental Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Genomics, Applied Entomolgy, Cell and Molecular Biology. Included are also papers in English, Computers Applications, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics.
The Department has an active Zoological Society which organizes special lectures, debates, excursions to the wild life National Parks, Sanctuaries, National Laboratories, and Academic Institutes. On completion of the Hon’s course, student has a choice to pursue postgraduate degree in fields like Biomedical Science, Zoology, Immunology, Biotechnology, Entomology, Fishery, Agriculture, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Bioinformatics. In past students had sucessfully entered through tough competition to the mentioned postgraduate courses, integrated Ph.D. programs, Business Administration courses, Indian Administrative and Police Services.
The department has dedicated, competent and qualified faculty with expertise in their respective field of specialization in Zoology, with research publications in various National and International peer reviewed journals.
The department is a part of the STAR college status as designated by the Department of Biotechnology, Minstry of science and Technology,Government of India.
Zoology as a subject is also taught to students of B. Sc. Program in Life Sciences along with other subjects like Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics,Computer Applications and English.
